Hi, and welcome to November news.

The days feel short now so I find myself settling down into focused activities like sewing and playing the fiddle, finding quiet inspiration. I invite you to join me… more below.

Fiddle Retreats Lismore

Do you want to improve your fiddle playing?  Find a more satisfying sound and fluency? Connect more deeply to your instrument and the music you love? My fiddle retreats are a place and a time to do just that.

My bijou retreats offer a time and place to focus on your playing and be a part of a constructive and caring community of adult fiddle learners. I blend individual support with group exercises to give you an armful of ideas to take your fiddling to the next level. All levels welcome.

Lismore is a peaceful island, known for its wild flowers and distinctive landscapes. Surrounded by a crown of mountains, this low-lying island in the Inner Hebrides is the perfect place for retreats.

My second and third retreats still have spaces, so don’t delay! Book now.

Food is provided by my daughter Ada Grace Francis and we love doing these retreats together! Here’s Ada’s Instagram page where she posts about food.

Find out more info on Lismore retreats.

Practice hub

We’re into week two of the practice hub. More than 100 people have signed up to the online space. From music, step dancing, storytelling, we all do our own thing at the same time. It brings focus to the day and I can detect some improvements to my playing.

Join us! No need to come every day, just when you can.

You can also use my Tunes library to give yourself a focus.

"Technically I’m not progressing right now, but it’s obvious that as I get older, I think of music in a very different way. The experiences that I’ve had and just the process of maturing make me play better."
Lynelle Inwood - homemaker and amateur musician

“Trying to learn how to do something that really matters to me is worth it, and if I suffer a little bit, it’s still worth it.” Ann MacNab - homemaker and amateur musician

“Perhaps musicians can teach the rest of the human race that life is a struggle but not a war.”
Pete Seeger.

Inspirational Educators

There are some wonderful music educators out there - among the most amazing, I think, is Christian Howes. He has a lot of videos of backing tracks on YouTube that are so cool. Check him out! I particularly like his relaxed play-along videos.

Sewing and Xmas

Mairi's nine-point star

Since taking part on a team for the Great Tapestry of Scotland (The First Edinburgh Festival), I got the bug. The nine-pointed star represent Universal balance and harmony according to the BaháΚΌí Faith. I’ve also heard that it represents the end of one era and the start of the next, according to First Nation indigenous beliefs. Either one’ll do me.

Keep on keeping on and all the best for now.
